Why solid

120 billion units of cosmetics packaging a year

Faced with this, we chose solid: a simpler, lighter way to care for yourself and for the planet.

The context

What our beauty habits leave behind

Every year, the cosmetics industry produces 120 billion units of packaging worldwide: bottles, tubes, jars, pumps. Much of it is never recycled and ends up in landfill, incinerated or scattered in the environment.

Pointing this out is not about blame; it is a starting point. Solid is not the only possible answer, but it is ours: a simple, practical step to lighten our footprint every day.

Three key figures

Why solid makes sense

  • 9%

of plastic waste is actually recycled worldwide.

  • 0%

01 · The water we transport

Why transport water in a bottle?

In most liquid cosmetics, water is the first ingredient on the list. It is packaged, transported, then protected with preservatives all the way to your bathroom. It makes the product, its packaging and its transport heavier.

Solid makes the opposite choice: a water-free formula, lighter and more concentrated, where every ingredient earns its place.

“Keep the essentials, and nothing more.”

02 · The plastic that stays

One bottle, several materials

Cosmetics packaging often combines several materials: bottle, pump, cap and label, sometimes in different plastics. To be recycled, they would need to be separated, which rarely happens in practice.

Sorting your waste is still worthwhile, but it is not enough: worldwide, only 9% of plastic waste is actually recycled (OECD, 2022).

Our case, on the other hand, is crafted from French oak by an artisan in Haute-Loire. It is not thrown away: it is kept, refilled and passed on.

03 · Knowledge rediscovered

Solid, an age-old craft

Long before bottles, people cared for themselves with soaps, balms, salves and make-up. They kept them in containers made of wood, ceramic or metal, which were reused and passed on.

So solid is not a recent invention: it is something handed down. We are bringing this know-how back to life with carefully chosen ingredients and a formulation for today.

“Solid isn't a trend. It's a legacy.”

Liquid or solid

Two ways to take care of yourself

What sets a conventional liquid cosmetic apart from our solid products, day to day.

A conventional liquid cosmetic

  • Water as the first ingredient: a resource that gets packaged and transported.
  • Packaging made of several materials: bottle, pump and label, hard to separate when sorting waste.
  • Limited recycling: worldwide, only 9% of plastic waste is actually recycled¹.
  • Preservatives are essential: a formula that contains water has to be protected to keep well.

Terres d'Ocre solid products

  • A water-free formula: raw and concentrated, where every ingredient earns its place.
  • Zero plastic: an FSC-certified French oak case, paired with refills.
  • A case for life: it lasts as long as you look after it, and refills slip into it over time.
  • A light, compact format: less weight and less volume to transport.
  • 100% natural origin: a formula made in Romainville, Île-de-France.
